We have heard rumors for some time that Apple has been working on AR glasses. It remains to be seen when exactly it will be released, but it seems that we could be approaching the release because, according to a report by The Information (Paywall), test production could begin soon.
According to the report, Apple has been working on semi-transparent lenses and these lenses have gone through the prototype phase and have entered test production. The report notes that these lenses have been in development for several years and date back to 2018. Now it looks like Apple can finally be satisfied with what they have.
That being said, it should be noted that test production does not mean that these glasses will be on the market soon, but as an indication that Apple is getting closer to completion and may make an announcement in the near future.
According to the source of the publication, "the lenses had reached a stage in May called technical validation testing (EVT), in which Apple typically manufactures thousands of units," said the person familiar with the matter. During this time, Apple has blocked the design and is starting to test its suitability for mass production. "
Take this with a grain of salt for now, but last we heard that these AR glasses appear to be set for a possible start in 2021.
