As early as 2017, major apps began to end support for the Apple Watch. One of those apps was Google Maps. The company didn't provide why the app was removed, but it may be because of watchOS, where Google may have felt it wasn't delivering the best Google Maps experience.
However, the company announced at the time that they would be bringing the app back at some point, and the good news is that they finally have it. In an announcement from Google, Maps is now back and available for the Apple Watch. If you weren't too excited about Apple Maps, you now have at least a slightly more familiar option for Google Maps.
According to Google, the watch version appears to be synced with the phone version, which means users can pick up where they left off. "Get quick estimated arrival times and step-by-step instructions to saved destinations like 'home' or 'work' and other shortcuts you have set in the app. For all other destinations, you can navigate from your phone and pick up where you are Your watch. "
Google notes that the availability of maps for the Apple Watch will be rolled out in the coming weeks. So take care if you wish.
