Apple's streaming service, TV +, wasn't doing as well as the company had hoped and is now leaving no stone unturned to attract more subscribers. According to Bloomberg, for its next trick, Apple could provide interactive augmented reality content for its original TV shows.

According to reports, Apple is developing a new function for TV +, with which you can insert characters or objects from selected programs into your surroundings using your iPhone or iPad camera. For example, while you're watching the For All Mankind show, Apple may offer the ability to project a virtual moon rover in front of you via augmented reality.

According to sources, Bloomberg Apple is slated to release bonus augmented reality content for shows during 2021.

We have asked Apple for confirmation and will update the story as soon as we hear something.

Augmented Reality has been a key focus for Apple and so it makes sense for the company to include it in their services as well. Apple has built special lidar sensors into the latest iPads for a better augmented reality experience. They are expected to be one of the highlights of the next line of iPhones. It is also said to be working on a smart mixed reality headset that could hit the market by 2022.

Additionally, AR isn't the only interactive content Apple may have plans for TV +. A previous Bloomberg report claimed the Cupertino, California-based company will also soon be releasing original podcasts that include bonus commentary and behind-the-scenes tidbits. In addition, a number of new subscription plans, called Apple One, are being developed to offer services like Apple News and Apple Music in packages at a lower monthly price.

It remains to be seen whether these steps will enable Apple to better keep up with its competitors. Earlier this year veteran analyst Toni Sacconaghi said Apple TV + could "not resonate with customers."

Apple isn't the first video streaming host to turn to interactive content to generate interest. Netflix actively invests in their own adventure-style shows that let you choose from multiple narratives and decide the fate of the characters.
